Shaping and finishing a project with a plane you crafted yourself is a rewarding experience. In this class, every student will make two planes. Each student will make a rabbeting plane (a tool used to cut a notch — a rabbet — along the edge or a board, and then choose between a coffin profile smoothing plane or a jack plane with a handle. Learn how to shape the wooden bodies for the planes and then harden and temper your own cutting irons to fit your planes. You will also be taught how to set and adjust the blade in a wooden plane with the blade secured by a wedge.
